Our Story

In 1990 a guiding light led our Herbalist, Rose Kalajian, to Sage Mountain Herbal Center where her professional Herbal Studies studies began. It was there at SMHC that Rose began to study alongside her life-long friend and mentor, Rosemary Gladstar.

After 7 years of hard work, Rose graduated from Sage Mountain’s Science and Art of Herbalism program with her diploma which still hangs on the wall of The Natural Health Hut.

Rose Kalajian

Master Herbalist

With 20+ years as a clinical herbalist, Rose is knowledgeable and skilled in the use of culinary and medicinal herbs.  In her herbal practice she specializes in the health of humans as well as cats, dogs, and other animals.  Rose promotes health through the use of herbs, movement and nutrition.

She loves the opportunity to teach. She offers many workshops and classes, including her 1-year intensive Herbalist Training Program and continued Clinical Herbalist Program, both held here at the Natural Health Hut.

Her true passion lies in helping clients better understand their health and wellbeing. Through herbal and Chinese medicine teachings, Rose offers one-on-one consultations for those looking to deeper explore their health.

Rose is also available for outside speaking engagements and/or cooking demonstrations for people of all ages, to groups large or small. Word of her past Raw food dinners, held on the farm for nearly a decade, still travels throughout the Tampa Bay area.

In her free time, Rose can be found living the example she seeks to exude to her clients: plenty of movement, good food, and activities to boost her wellbeing. She enjoys kayaking the many waterways that surround Tampa Bay, making dinners and meals for those in need, spending time planting on and working the farm, and reading/keeping up on the latest herbal findings.

…While Rose received her certification in 1997, the story begins long before that…

At just 13 years old, Rose discovered a book that would change her life. Published in 1939 by Jethro Kloss, Back to Eden is known to many as “the herbalists’ bible”; it set the stage for many who practice holistic health. In fact, all students of the Herbalist Training Program are still encouraged to read & review this timeless wealth of knowledge.

In her adult life, Rose’s love for health and nutrition lead her to open a traveling health food truck called The Natural Health Hut. She traveled the country alongside her husband, visiting eclectic events and art festivals of all kinds, educating people on a healthy diet. In 1998, Rose retired the food truck and built the herb shoppe as it is today.

The Farm. The Shoppe. The Herbs.

The Natural Health Hut is located on a 7-acre herb farm in Wesley Chapel, Florida. Here at the Hut, the Earth comes first in everything we do. That’s why we leave all 7 acres wild and untamed. In other words, we just allow the plants to grow as they want — especially our Florida Natives.  We do not believe our plants need any additional tending to beyond love and attention. All of our plants live on a natural diet made up of the leaves that drop from our tall trees and the organic matter left by our resident Chickens and Goats. In simpler terms: we are an organic farm.

Our physical shoppe is lined with cubicle shelves which house over 130+ organic herbs including leaves, roots, barks, flowers, berries, mushrooms, seaweeds, and more. For each of those herbs, our shelves also hold single-herb tinctures in multiple carrier menstrums, offering hundreds more options for our clients. From these herbs and tinctures, Rose Kalajian can create any custom formula you may need. Of course, you are always invited to browse our Tincture Bar for our our tried-and-true house blends.

Come enjoy a cuppa tea…
